FAQ

This isn’t a question, it’s a statement. As our president regularly says: “it’s now in your hands South Africa.” Rage Festival 2020 is no different. Whilst we will go to extraordinary measures to adapt the nature of the festival and ensure your safety, you need to respect us, your friends and fellow attendees and do your bit. Read the rules, FAQ’s and recommendations.

Come with a great attitude, ready to comply and play your part to ensure we have a smooth, safe and extremely low risk experience for all. We will have an absolute zero tolerance approach to anyone who compromises the safety of another person as we always have.

Of course! The Rage brand has become synonymous with safety and has often been seen as the benchmark for event safety protocols in SA. We are well aware that there is a virus and that every risk needs to be mitigated just as hotels, restaurants and airlines are doing.

Woooah wild one, love it! Of course! Please be smart, don’t compromise your studies but if you’re diligent and have it all worked out then we’d love to see you. We have noticed a gap in the timetable that will allow for a sneaky study break if you’re not writing certain subjects. We recommend you purchase a Rage Flexi Passport. This Passport type will give you access to choose any 5 events in Ballito or Umhlanga during the day or night.

Yes of course, just in a different way. Imagine an island holiday in Ibiza, Mallorca or Mykonos but with the mega 5000 pax clubs closed. There is still sooo much to do. Amazing beach bars with crazy sound and lighting setups and the best DJs. Every restaurant is a vibe, every bar is a vibe and you get to experience loads of different spaces. As a festival team we are hiring 15 venues in Umhlanga, Durban and Ballito exclusively for you and then completely redecorating them, adding “Rage worthy” sound and lighting rigs and then dropping the best artists into them. Don’t you worry, it’s going to be the best! Maybe the best ever.

Please speak to your GP and have yourself sent for a COVID-19 test. If you’re negative and start to feel better then we look forward to hosting you. If positive, please see the previous FAQ.

If it is still mandatory at the time then yes, otherwise no. Regardless, once you are at a table, booth or pod with your mates then you won’t need your mask on, similar to how restaurants and cafe’s work at the moment.

None of us can predict the future of course but we all want the same thing – to head to the coast and celebrate freedom together. So there is shared risk. As we are proceeding, we will start incurring more and more cost as we get closer to our 27 November start date. We do believe that the likelihood of this is low but it is important to be transparent and let you know what would happen if the “worst happened.” In this case our standard cancellation refund policy as per our website would apply. Refer to point 3.16 in our T&C’s.

This is Rage Festival… Silly question! Program will reveal all. You’re going to have an amazing time! It will be the best week of your life.

Some venues will be, some potentially not. Full details will be revealed in due course once we have finalised all of our venue and retail partners.

Yes of course. Believe it or not, putting Rage together costs much more than we receive in Passport sales. To put that to numbers – the average price of a Rage Festival Passport is around R2200. The total cost of the festival costs us R3800 per person who attends. We make this up from sponsorships and other concession revenues like bar income. 2020 will be no different. We have 15 venues to hire, fit and make absolutely amazing for you. You will most definitely get full value for whichever tier of Rage Festival Passport you have purchased.

In March 2021, we will send an email out to each Rage Festival 2020 Passport holder. It will contain all the information of how to do this and will be very simple. In short you’ll be asked to register your intent to return and your Passport will be reactivated for 2020. Please note that we will be extremely strict on checking that it is you personally who uses it again. This is an offer of added value, not a chance for people to take advantage of us.

Yes, we will limit the numbers for 2020 to ensure we can operate extremely safely so please don’t wait to purchase and end up disappointed.

Most likely. This is a very fluid situation. On Saturday 15 August we received the first really positive news from our president with the opening of certain sectors of the hospitality and local tourism industry including on-premise liquor consumption and the opening of bars and taverns. Let’s hope for more good news in the coming weeks! It is possible that certain protocols in our FAQ’s may be relaxed such as the wearing of masks should legislation change over time. We will keep you abreast of developments as the situation unfolds. So keep checking our FAQ’s regularly, especially in the week before you travel.

This is such a tough one. Everything is a balance. We’re trying to cater to as many of our Rage family as possible. We also operate in towns that get extremely busy from 15 December onwards for the December holidays. The school holidays also run much later in January than ever before meaning these towns will still have holiday makers and this would create capacity problems. We spoke to many accommodation outlets as well, many of whom were very rigid with their policies – not wanting to offer people the chance to change their bookings to another date. We did our best to consider every option we could and each and every time, we arrived at the same conclusion. We simply couldn’t move the dates.

The reason for the 85% refund is as follows: Firstly, in order to sell the Passport we incur transaction fees. Credit card fees, payment gateways, clearing fees and a fee to our ticketing company who processes the transaction. This is roughly 9%. In addition, our costs to host the festival do not only comprise the costs of the actual events. A huge component of our costs are marketing, staff salaries for 16 people, offices and all the other normal costs associated with operating a company so that we can service our customers and plan year-round. We are also fighting for our survival. We usually do a lot of additional events and this year has been extraordinary. We have had no revenue since March. In returning 85% of the Passport fee, we are returning far more than is financially feasible for us to do so. We have also incurred well more than 15% of the cost associated with selling that Passport in the first place. Many events are offering no refund or 20% or 30% or at best 50%. We are going out of our way to do our best. We trust you understand our difficult position.

No. An undertaking like the Sound Factory takes months to plan. We’ve been holding out for months trying but it isn’t possible. In order to create it, we would need to know that mass gatherings would be permitted by the time Rage came around by 1 August already in order to prepare. We also don’t believe in fighting for a single venue, mass attendance experience is in the spirit of us all doing our bit in the fight against COVID-19. We want to create entertainment whilst keeping everyone extremely safe – we’re not looking to push boundaries unnecessarily. We’re working in licensed venues, with great airflow, which allow for a safe experience for all.

If you test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of the commencement of the festival (i.e. on or after 13 November 2020), we respectfully ask you to notify us and not attend. We will assist you with refund or Passport postponement options in line with our policies.

This is a personal choice, whilst your age does put you at lower risk, we still strongly discourage anyone with high risk comorbidities from attending any sort of gathering. If you therefore would prefer not to attend, notify us with proof from a doctor . We will assist you with refund or Passport postponement options in line with our policies.

You notify us immediately and our health and safety team will handle the process within whatever the best practice requirements are at the time based on information from the Department of Health.

There are 2 scenarios. Scenario 1, standing and socialising with limited social distancing is permitted and socially acceptable again. Scenario 2, social distancing is still mandatory in bars and restaurants. We are obviously hoping for scenario 1 but have a plan for both.

Scenario 1:

  1. You will need a Ballito Rage Passport, no exceptions as we need detailed information about you for contact tracing purposes if necessary.
  2. You will log into your account at https://ballitorage.howler.co.za/ and will be able to see the full daily program of parties from around 30 days before.
  3. You’ll wear a facemask to travel on the Rage Rides shuttles, all of which will be equipped with hand sanitizer (Assuming still mandatory).
  4. On arrival we will scan your Passport on your wrist and check your temperature. (Assuming still mandatory). You’ll be wearing a mask and so will all of our staff (Assuming still mandatory).
  5. Once inside have a great time!
  6. When you go to the bar or the loo, you’ll put your mask on (Assuming still mandatory).

Scenario 2:

  1. You will need a Ballito Rage Passport, no exceptions as we need detailed information about you for contact tracing purposes if necessary.
  2. You will log into your account at https://ballitorage.howler.co.za/ and will be able to see the full daily program of parties from around 30 days before.
  3. You’ll wear a facemask to travel on the Rage Rides shuttles, all of which will be equipped with hand sanitizer.
  4. On arrival we will scan your Passport on your wrist and check your temperature. You’ll be wearing a mask and so will all of our staff.
  5. Once inside you’ll grab a table with your mates from where to have the best time. Once there you can remove your masks and have a jol.
  6. When you go to the bar or the loo, you’ll put your mask on.
  7. Tables will be positioned as best as possible to see the DJ’s and be a part of the epic vibe.

Obviously the situation is fluid and it is more likely that this process will be relaxed than tightened as we better learn to deal with COVID-19 and as the curve (hopefully) continues to flatten – but we will keep you updated as legislature unfolds.

Impossible to know as we await international travel restrictions. We will announce an incredible lineup very soon either way and keep abreast of international movements.

Yes. A full transport route map will accompany the festival program.

Yes. All of the venues we work with will have special Rage Black areas created. You’ll often be closest to the DJ booth and will enjoy your own socially distanced private entrances.

To request a refund, please contact Rage Travel directly by emailing info@rage.travel

Please include the below information in your email:
– Full Name of the main purchaser.
– Email Address that was used to make the booking.

Please note that a 10% cancellation fee will apply to your refund. Why? Processing online transactions can be complicated. Booking fees refer to the costs that the Rage Travel business collects in order to make this secure online transaction possible. These comprise the bank fees, payment gateways charges, commissions and other administrative costs.

Refunds will open on Tuesday 25 August at 12pm. If you get an automated response to your email request, it means we have received your email and we will deal with it. Please have a little patience as it takes time to handle everyone’s queries timeously.

In March 2021, we will send an email out to each Rage Festival 2020 Passport holder who has not used their Passport at Rage 2020. It will contain all the information of how to do this and will be very simple.
